Barclays Women’s Championship Player, Goal and Manager of the Month award winners announced

The winners of the Barclays Women’s Championship awards for December have now been confirmed.

Firstly, Bristol City’s Emily Syme was named as Player of the Month after emerging victorious in the combined public and panel vote having notched a brace in the Robins’ 5-0 victory over Durham prior to the Christmas break.

City signed off for the festive period in style at Ashton Gate, with Syme putting her side in front on the stroke of half-time with a well-taken turn and finish before adding a second just after the restart when finding the far corner of the net.

The midfielder saw off competition from London City Lionesses’ Isobel Goodwin and Portsmouth’s Sophie Quirk to take the award.

Goal of the Month meanwhile was awarded to Portsmouth’s Lily Dent for her effort against Sunderland in a 2-2 draw at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground on December 15.

The teenager emerged victorious in the public vote, seeing off the challenge of Bristol City’s Lexi Lloyd-Smith and Amalie Thestrup, London City Lionesses’ Isobel Goodwin and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah and teammate Sophie Quirk to secure the accolade.

Finally, the League Managers’ Association have confirmed that Bristol City’s Steve Kirby has been voted as Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Month for December by the LMA panel to make it a double-award winning month for the Robins.

Ending the year in style with their emphatic 5-0 win over Durham, City currently sit in second position in the Barclays Women’s Championship table, level on points with league leaders Birmingham City.
