Barclays Women’s Championship January Player and Goal of the Month award winners confirmed

The winners of the Barclays Women’s Championship awards for January have now been confirmed.

Firstly, Birmingham City’s Ellie Mason has been named as Player of the Month after emerging victorious in the combined public and panel vote.

Mason was a key attacking threat for the league leaders, with her on target in a 3-1 win over Portsmouth as well as in a 3-1 reverse to Bristol City.

The midfielder saw off the challenge of Charlton Athletic’s Charlotte Newsham, Portsmouth’s Sophie Quirk and Sunderland Katie Kitching to take the award.

The Northern Ireland international also made it a double success after scooping the Goal of the Month accolade for her aforementioned strike against south-coast outfit Portsmouth.

Mason’s effort came out on top in the public vote, beating Kayleigh Barton, Eleanor Dale, Shania Hayles and Sophie Quirk to the accolade.

Elsewhere, the League Managers’ Association announced last week that Charlton Athletic manager Karen Hills had been voted Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Month for January by a panel of Faye White, Mo Marley MBE, Brent Hills, Jen O’Neill, Alan Curbishley, and Mollie Kmita.

The Addicks secured a maximum haul of six points from their two league games during the opening month of the calendar year to maintain their position in the race for promotion, with them currently sitting in fifth but just five points shy of the summit with a game in hand.
