The winners of the Barclays Women’s Super League’s awards for October have now been confirmed.
Voted for by a combination of the public and a panel of experts, the successful individuals for the past month are as follows.
Firstly, Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp has been named as Player of the Month having been in scintillating form of late for Gareth Taylor’s side.
Scoring twice in October – a goal apiece in victories over West Ham United and Aston Villa, alongside one assist – her strike against the Hammers also saw her become the youngest ever player to reach 50 Barclays Women’s Super League goals.
A constant thorn in the side of her opponents, the 24-year-old saw off competition from Celine Bizet, Annabel Blanchard, Sophie Howard, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Nikita Parris to secure the trophy.
Manager of the Month meanwhile has been awarded to Brighton & Hove Albion’s Dario Vidošić, who secures the accolade for the first time in only his second month in the Barclays WSL.
The Seagulls collected seven points from a possible nine in October – including a draw with Manchester United last time out – leaving them fourth in the league standings, and level on points with the Red Devils in third and three points shy of leaders Manchester City.
The Australian pipped Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor – winner of the September award – and Manchester City’s Gareth Taylor to take the crown.
Finally, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s strike against Tottenham Hotspur was voted as Goal of the Month for October.
A hugely competitive month on the goal front, with no less than nine efforts in contention from Cornelia Kapocs, Marie Höbinger, Annabel Blanchard, Caitlin Foord, Elisabeth Terland, Khadija Shaw, Yuka Momiki and Lauren Hemp, the Chelsea midfielder came out on top in the voting process.
