Charlton Athletic’s Sophie Whitehouse scoops Barclays Women’s Championship 2024-25 Save of the Season award

Women’s Super League Football can confirm that Charlton Athletic’s Sophie Whitehouse has won the 2024-25 Barclays Women’s Championship (BWSL2) Save of the Season award.

The shot stopper’s 95th minute save from Newcastle United’s Beth Lumsden at The Valley on Sunday 20th April topped the public voting charts, with her late heroics earning her side a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

The home side had initially opened the scoring through Jodie Hutton, before Shania Hayles drew the Magpies level.

Whitehouse was to prove the hero for Charlton meanwhile, pulling off a number of impressive saves – including her award-winning effort – to ensure that Karen Hills’ side secured a point come full time.

Whitehouse joins the following end of season award winners in the Barclays Women’s Championship – a division set to be known as Barclays WSL2 moving forwards:
