Beth Hepple’s late winner saw Durham defeat Blackburn Rovers in a five-goal classic while London City Lionesses kept pace with league leaders Birmingham City with a 2-0 win over Sunderland.
Elsewhere in the Barclays Women’s Championship saw Bristol City and Southampton play out a scoreless draw while a brace from Ellie Brazil helped Charlton Athletic rout Portsmouth.
Here’s how it all happened…
Durham down Rovers in five-goal thriller
Beth Hepple’s dramatic late winner saw Durham overcome Blackburn Rovers in a five-goal thriller.
Rovers opened the scoring through Lucy Newell’s header on the stroke of half-time before Durham equalised two minutes after the restart through Kaila Novak.
Rachel Dugdale’s 55th mintue effort restored Blackburn’s lead, though Becky Salicki would draw Durham level not long after.
With neither side seemingly finding a breakthrough, Hepple proved the difference in the end, breaking the hearts of Rovers fans with her injury-time winner.
Brazil brace propels Addicks past Pompey
Charlton Athletic made it three wins on the bounce with an emphatic 5-0 win over Portsmouth at Westleigh Park.
Charlotte Newsham put her side out in front after 18 minutes before Ellie Brazil doubled their advantage following the restart to kickoff a flurry of second-half strikes.
Minutes later saw Jodie Hutton add a third when she converted Karin Muya’s byline cross, with Brazil bagging her brace not long after.
Emma Bissell then put the finishing touches on the result with her first goal in a Charlton shirt.
Lionesses strike down Lasses
London City Lionesses ran out 2-0 winners over title contenders Sunderland thanks to goals from Izzy Goodwin and Kosovare Asllani.
Lionesses roared out in front when Goodwin headed into the net from Asllani’s free kick in the 14th-minute.
Asllani then got herself on the scoresheet from the penalty spot after Saki Kumagai was adjudged to have been brought down in the box.
The result sees London City in second, one point behind league-leaders Birmingham City and with a game in hand.
Cooke stunner sees Blues better Blades
Shannon Cooke’s 35th minute long-range strike proved the difference between league leaders Birmingham City and second-from-bottom Sheffield United.
Birmingham enjoyed the better of proceedings from kick-off and almost went ahead through Cooke’s header just before the half-hour mark, forcing Sian Rogers into a fine save.
Cooke was not to be deterred with her second attempt at goal just minutes later, rifling in a long-range strike that gave Rogers no chance to secure all three points.
Robins and Saints share the spoils
Bristol City played out a goalless draw with Southampton at Ashton Gate.
A string of saves from Fran Stenson and a stubborn Southampton rearguard kept out Bristol City and secured a well-earned point on the road.
The first chance of the game fell Bristol City’s way when Jamie-Lee Napier shot at goal after cutting in from the left, only to be denied by Saints keeper Fran Stenson.
Emily Syme and Lexi Lloyd-Smith were the next to test Stenson, but the Southampton shot-stopper proved equal to their efforts.
With time running out, Bristol City had seemingly finally found a way through, only for Napier to fire wide from inside the six-yard box with the final kick of the game.
