Isobel Goodwin scored four to fire London City Lionesses to an impressive 5-1 victory over Portsmouth in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
There was also late drama at both ends of the country, as Karin Muya struck twice in the last 10 minutes to rescue a point for leaders Charlton Athletic against Sunderland while Mollie Lambert netted an 89th-minute winner for Durham against local rivals Newcastle United.
The day’s early kick-off saw Bristol City secure a 4-2 win over Sheffield United while Birmingham City beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0.
Hat-trick and more for Goodwin
Isobel Goodwin’s stunning quartet of goals helped London City Lionesses beat Portsmouth 5-1 and move up to fourth in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
The summer signing from Sheffield United was yet to hit the net in Lionesses blue but broke her duck in emphatic fashion at Hayes Lane.
Teammate Teyah Goldie put the hosts in front after 17 minutes before Goodwin doubled the lead just under 10 minutes later to secure a 2-0 lead at the break.

The striker then had her hat-trick within five minutes of the restart, scoring in the 48th and 50th minutes to seal the match ball and put the result beyond doubt.
Portsmouth hit back through Sophie Quirk with 15 minutes left but Goodwin grabbed her fourth late on to round off a strong afternoon in South London.
Addicks fight back to stay top
Karin Muya’s late double ensured Charlton Athletic stayed top of the early table thanks to a 3-3 draw with Sunderland.
The Addicks were staring down the barrel of a first league defeat of the season when Jenna Dear made it 3-1 to the visitors with 12 minutes remaining.
But Muya scored twice in four minutes late on to salvage a point for the hosts.

Katie Kitching and Jessica Stapleton were both on target for the Black Cats, as they raced into a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes before Kayleigh Green halved the deficit before the break.
Dear then looked to have sealed all three points for Sunderland before Muya’s heroics forced a share of the spoils.
Lambert leaves it late for Wildcats
Mollie Lambert’s 89th-minute winner sealed a dramatic 1-0 victory for Durham over Newcastle United.
There was little to choose between the sides in the battle between Tyne and Wear, but midfielder Lambert popped up late to bundle home after Carly Johns’ shot was saved.
The pair had almost combined 15 minutes earlier, with Lambert playing in Johns, who fired her shot just over while Lambert was also denied herself by a smart save from Claudia Moan during a frenetic second half.

Newcastle had chances of their own, with Deanna Cooper seeing her header cleared off the line early on, while Tatiana Saunders did well to deny Rachel Furness in the first half.
It was a tale of both keepers being in fine form, as Moan also did excellently to stop Kaila Novak but she was unable to deny Lambert at the death as Durham took all three points and moved up to second in the table.
City push past Blades
Bristol City earned their first league win of the season with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Sheffield United.
Both sides arrived at Bramall Lane without a league win to their name, but it was the Robins who came out on top thanks to pairs of goals either side of the break.
Lexi Lloyd-Smith opened the scoring for the visitors after just 12 minutes before Ffion Morgan doubled the lead on the half hour.

Eva Butler struck in first-half stoppage time to haul the Blades back into the contest but Bristol City immediately struck back after the break.
Amelie Thestrup needed just three minutes of the second half to find the net before Abi Harrison made it 4-1 seven minutes later.
Maria Farrugia did get one back with 15 minutes left but it was not enough to deny the visitors victory.
Blues back to winning ways
Birmingham City bounced back from defeat in league and cup with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.
Blues fell to their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Durham last weekend before losing 3-0 to Brighton in midweek cup action.

But Amy Merricks’ side returned to victory with a comfortable 2-0 win over Blackburn thanks to a goal in either half.
Louise Quinn continued her strong form with the opener after 26 minutes before Christie Murray made sure of the three points 13 minutes from time.
