Three of London’s iconic stations will have a Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) takeover to mark a historic weekend for the top two tiers of women’s football later this week.
Across the weekend of November 16 and 17, for the first time ever, all eleven games across the Barclays WSL and Barclays Women’s Championship will be played in each home side’s respective main stadia.
This includes a North London derby between Spurs and Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and a top-of-the-table meeting between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, both on Saturday 16 November, amongst many other exciting clashes.
And to celebrate the milestone, the Women’s Professional Leagues and Transport for London (TfL) have joined forces to have a number of iconic Barclays WSL players on the overground and underground airwaves.
In the stations closest to the aforementioned grounds – White Hart Lane, Seven Sisters and Fulham Broadway – those traveling to the games will be welcomed into the stations by the voices of some of the league’s biggest names.
Bethany England (Tottenham Hotspur), Lotte Wubben-Moy (Arsenal), Lucy Bronze (Chelsea), and Alex Greenwood (Manchester City) have worked with TfL to record special announcements that will play out across the stations in the run up to kick-off at the matches.
Additionally, the stations will feature unique wipe boards created especially for each of the fixtures for supporters to enjoy as they make their way towards the grounds.
Fans are also being encouraged to ground-hop using the London Overground and Underground to travel between each game, with Spurs against Arsenal kicking off at 1.45pm (due to finish at approximately 3.45pm), and Chelsea versus Manchester City starting at 5.30pm.
Those wishing to attend both matches should start out on the Overground from White Hart Lane to Seven Sisters, then take the Victoria line to Victoria before the District line to Fulham Broadway – a journey that takes between 45 and 60 minutes in total.
Finally, the coming weeks will also see the introduction of the Lioness line on the London Overground to celebrate the achievements of the England women’s national football team.
More information on the line will be shared on Transport for London’s social media channels in due course.
