Women’s League Cup Competition Explained

The Women’s League Cup is back and we’re giving you everything you need to know ahead of the first fixtures starting today.

What is the Women’s League Cup?

The Women’s League Cup draw saw 20 teams split out into 5 groups where they will play each other once. Groups have been formed regionally, north and south.

During the group stages, each club plays two fixtures. If a fixture ends in a draw at the end of the 90 minutes, a penalty shoot-out will take place for an additional point. Only the outright winner of the group goes through to quarter finals.

What format do the knockout stages take?

A live draw will be held between each stage following the group stages, to decide the fixtures for the quarter-finals and semi-finals.  They will be played as one fixture. If two teams draw there will be 30 minutes of extra time and if the scores are level a penalty shootout will take place.
